Eddie, The machine you just described plus 17" monitor, 56k modem, speakers, and 3yr warranty is featured in DELL's latest catalog for $2199. Even if Compaq includes the modem and speakers and you assume a CPQ is as good as a Dell, a top of the line monitor and triple the warranty for $200 is a hell of a deal. Thought experiment You hold two stocks, both with a cost basis of $10,000. One is up 50%, the other down 50%. Sell the up stock for a profit of $5000. Now tell the IRS that you don't owe any tax because you have an offsetting loss in the stock you still hold.
