HW-- late response. It was sodium cyclamate; they determined that rats might get cancer if they consumed the equivalent of a freight car load of the stuff. Those rats must have been eating a couple of oz's of s.c. a day; not much time to consume any real calories. They probably got cancer simply from the surface irritation caused by so much crystalline material grating against the disgestive tract. BIG SCIENCE so often rewards us with garbage. dulane
