WEEKAHEAD-Latam stocks seen rebounding slightly Reuters, Monday, April 13, 1998 at 14:51
BUENOS AIRES, April 13 (Reuters) - Stocks handled by Latin America's chief bourses were seen increasing their value slightly this week as investors reenter the markets following the Easter holidays, traders said Monday. <snip> Brazilian shares are likely to stay on an upbeat note this week, bolstered by an expected interest rate cut and progress in privatizations, analysts said. But next Monday's options settlement is likely to add some volatility to the market. Local shares were seen buoyed by declining domestic interest rates as the Central Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (COPOM) meets Wednesday to discuss rate policy. Progress in privatizations this week, with bids for a new Band B cellular phone license opened Tuesday and the auction of Sao Paulo state's power utility Eletropaulo (SAO:ELP) Wednesday, should also help the market. The Bovespa index rose 2.9 percent last week, closing Friday at 11,975 points. reuters.com))
