Read the book. The terms are the authors' and are not meant to be derrogatory. A chimp, in their parlance, is a second-tier player in a market dominated by a gorilla. Due to the nature of the market the chimp is confined to a series of niches. Nimble chimps can do very well, but only the gorilla commands the premium valuation.
