To All

The reason I got involved with Systems of Excellence in the beginning is in their unique approach to incorporating video conferencing on a network without degrading the performance of the video or the network. My original due dilligence was done in the technical area since this is the area I am very knowledgable in. I bought shares of the company based on its technical ability.

I spoke my Technical contact at Systems today (10/31/96) and discussed the DESKTOP DIAL-UP WAN solution that they have or don't have. I have talked to this person on several occasions over the last 6 months. I asked him to clarify the WAN solution that they presently have and if it supported a desktop dial-up. That is to be able to connect to a remote user directly from the workstation. Here is a run down of the system and new system they are working on.

Their present system does NOT have desktop dial-up solution! They have been "vigorously" working on this however.

The present configuration consists of a box with camera that sits on top of the monitor - this box is OEMed by Sony and uses a Sony camera. This box interfaces with a line driver unit and a standard NTSC video card with TV tuner that sits in the computer.

Their new system will be one box that sits next to the monitor. This unit was designed by SEXI and contains the speakers, line drivers, mike and video input. This unit will allow the customer to use ANY video camera and mike they want.

Their new software will be based in Windows NT (one of my favorite operating systems). They have a Windows NT consultant working with them right now on this and I offered my services and expertise if they needed it (anything to help them improve their product!).

The new software will allow each workstation to have their own Video Phone Number and be able to "dial-up" from the workstation any other user on the Local or Wide Area Network. If the user is on the LVN (Local Video Network) the communication will work at 30fps, if the user is in a remote location the system will dial-up that user through a CODEC that is located back in the "Closet". Since they are going through a CODEC the remote user will not be at 30fps unless 2 to 3 ISDN lines are used. The compression algroithms used are in the CODECs and as new CODECs become available with better compression technology, their system will take advantage of it.

Their new system and software are H.320 compliant, which means that they can "theoretically" talk with all other systems that are H.320 compliant.

The new system will be ready early 97 and will be announced soon. I was told that I will be receiving literature on it in a 3 to 4 weeks.

They will be doing only the Telemedicine show and not Comdex. They want to focus on what was on "their plate right now".

The NY BOCES install will be done in the next two weeks. They will be using 2 CODECs with their LVN. I was invited to see this set up when it is completed. I will post my findings then.

My contact is very knowledgable about the technical aspects of the product and was VERY upbeat about the company's future. I feel he has been honest with me and sincere. If this all is scam then I have been duped by the best!
