I'm currently contemplating taking a similar course of action and, like you, I have never done that before. I am almost envious of you, since I haven't been able to work up enough courage (or motivation? or fear?) to begin liquidation of stocks that I've held for years. The capital gains on most of my portfolio are huge. My typical cost basis is about 25 to 30 percent of the current market value, and I just can't bring myself to incur such a large capital gains bill.

How did you finally decide to do it? Any words of encouragement?

Best wishes,

I2

P.S. And where are you putting the rest of the proceeds, in a 5% money market account?
