Intelect's SONETLYNX Selected as Communications Backbone for Major Technology Conferences

SONETLYNX Flexibility Allow Vendors to Converge Voice, Data and Video Transmissions Using a Wide Range of Applications and Protocols at Lower Cost

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1998-- Intelect Communications Inc. (''INTELECT'') (NASDAQ:ICOM - news) announced today that SONETLYNX(TM), its fiber-optic sonet-based multiplexer, has been selected to provide the communications backbones for the 1998 series of TeleCon's technology conferences featuring teleconferencing and videoconferencing.

For the first time, TeleCon exhibitors will be able to demonstrate their products and services over a common network. SONETLYNX makes this service possible due to its unique ability to efficiently converge voice, data and video with a wide variety of protocols.

SONETLYNX will be installed at TeleCon East in Washington, D.C., April 15-17; at TeleCon Europe in London, June 15-17; and TeleCon XVIII in Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 26-28. Applied Business TeleCommunications (ABC), the TeleCon sponsor, describes the conferences as leading forums on teleconferencing and videoconferencing, with current emphasis on applications in medicine and education.

''The TeleCon exhibitions will include many different systems from numerous vendors. Our SONETLYNX multiplexer can readily support the diversity of protocols these systems will use. That is a primary reason why we were selected to provide the exhibitions' communications backbone,'' noted Peter Ianace, President and CEO of Intelect Network Technologies, the INTELECT business unit that developed and markets the SONETLYNX product line.

For TeleCon East, ABC will demonstrate the capabilities of ABC's Product Test Lab which tests, evaluates and demonstrates desktop videoconferencing, telecommunications and network technology. At the Product Test Lab, vendors and conference attendees can test and evaluate products with ABC's engineers and technicians.

ABC's technical staff evaluates the technology, and provides user organizations with performance measurements. The Lab's first application demonstration involves distance learning from the University of Massachusetts in Boston and other colleges around the country.

At subsequent TeleCons, conference attendees who visit the exhibitions will be able to experiment directly with desktop videoconferencing and related technology products from many vendors. Attendees will be able to try out products using a number of local-area network and wide-area network (LAN and WAN) configurations provided by SONETLYNX nodes.
