Faroudja Inc. (Nasdaq NM:FDJA.O) Tuesday announced that the Company's new DFT 5000 Digital Format Translator with Aspect Ratio Control has won the "Pick of the Show" Editor's Choice Award at NAB '98 (the National Association of Broadcasters convention held in Las Vegas). The Award was given by Television Broadcast Magazine for "advancement in the art and science of television broadcast." Faroudja's line of Digital Format Translators provides a range of modular solutions for broadcasters, cable and satellite services seeking to deliver a variety of Digital Television (DTV) and High-Definition (HDTV) video formats to meet the new HDTV/DTV standards. Mike Moone, president of Faroudja, stated: "We are honored that the DFT 5000 was chosen 'Pick of the Show' at NAB this year. Faroudja's engineers worked closely with the technicians and engineers at the FOX Broadcasting Co., Tribune Broadcasting, Modern Videofilm and Four Media in the development of the Digital Format Translator. Our combined efforts have made the DFT a success. "There has been a tremendous response to the DFT line from broadcast engineers at networks, at station groups and at post-production houses. These are the people who must solve the dilemma of multiple-format sources and the delivery of FCC-compliant digital signals. It is imperative that stations have a top-quality and flexible solution, since they have expressed their intention to shift formats by program dayparts. "We believe that we do, indeed, provide easy DTV solutions to broadcasters, whether they choose to broadcast in 480p, 720p, 1080i or to deploy dual standards. The Digital Format Translator makes it possible for TV stations and studios to provide HDTV-quality video in the new DTV formats from today's analog and digital sources, and to convert archive materials." The Digital Format Translator can convert any 480i signal (NTSC, S-Video, analog component, D2 or D1) into the most popular of the new DTV formats specified by the U.S. Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC). The DFT 5000 also provides a variety of options for converting the aspect ratio of the image to 16:9. Faroudja's growing number of consumer and commercial products are designed to bring HDTV-quality images to the digital broadcast, display, PC/TV convergence, and home theater markets. Faroudja is recognized around the world for its superior video processing technology, and holds more than 50 patents. Faroudja has received numerous awards, including an Emmy(R) award for Engineering Development. -0- |
