DVD Moves Beyond Early-Adopter Stage

By Andy Patrizio, TechWeb <Picture>DVD players and DVD movies are starting to move beyond the early adopter stages into mainstream acceptance, according to retailers of the year-old video format.

Meanwhile, the competing Digital Video Express technology is barely out of the starting gate.

"Every day, we get new DVD-only customers," said Ron Dassa, owner of Laser Blazer in West Los Angeles, which sells and rents laser disc and DVDs. "It's a whole new clientele who wouldn't have bought a laser disc player."
