Msft is unlikely to be a threat to sdti.

Firefly is not a "privacy" company, I don't know why the press releases went out with that spin. Firefly, like its direct competitor net perceptions, is an intelligent agent company -- software that analyzes your mouse clicks and tracks your preferences to make suggestions based on what other similar to you are doing. Feels more like a big brother company to me.

MSFT focuses solely on the success of windows NT as an enterprise platform. although NT is growing rapidly, it will never replace all of the UNIX and mainframe corporate infrastructure on a global basis. Everyone thought client server would kill mainframes and last time I checked IBM was doing ok in the big iron business. The point is that organizations rarely discard existing infrastructure, it is much more efficient to deploy new technologies for new applications.

Enterprise or ecommerce security will HAVE to support multiple application environments and platforms - Microsoft is not a threat because of this. In addition, it would be better from microsoft's perspective (and cisco for that matter) to see sdti be successful as the identification/authentication and encryption standards bearer because acceptance of standards spurs rapid market development.
