From macosrumors.com today:

Adobe working on "Quark Killer"

In recent weeks, several notes have been sent in regarding a project at Adobe called "K7," designed to be a serious competitor for Quark's XPress software.

From a well-connected reader:

K7 "Quark-Killer" in early alpha stage, being shown to key Quark sites to hold the from upgrading to version 4 of Xpress. We will get a look soon, but thgis looks like a MAJOR product for the DTP crowed. K-7 fully integrates PDF handling, has the major features of Photoshop, Illustrator and Streamline built-in, and - surprise - banning legal problems will read ALL Quark plug-ins, on top of all Photoshop ones.

Fascinating possibilities arise. With the recent Quark-MTropolis debacle, this may be an excellent time for Adobe to sweep in and gain greater user support in the DTP arena.

If ADBE pulls this off, HANG ON.
