====================================================================== ÿÿ ICG Communications Inc. will begin offering digital subscriber line services in Ohio and other markets by the end of 1998. ÿÿ DSL technology uses regular phone lines to provide high-speed access to the Internet and other services. ÿÿ Because ICG has the most extensive infrastructures in place in California, Colorado and Ohio, those areas will see the rollout of services first, said Robert Daly, president of the Ohio Valley region of ICG, based in Cleveland. ÿÿ ICG is the first competitive local exchange carrier to join the Universal Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line Working Group, a consortium of industry leaders founded by Microsoft, Intel, Compaq and others to accelerate the development of DSL. ÿÿ J. Shelby Bryan, president and CEO of the Englewood, Colo.-based ICG, said customers have demanded higher bandwidth services at lower costs than now offered by Bell companies. ÿÿ Although specific pricing wasn't announced, the company said the service could offer substantial savings over other high-speed access offerings. ÿÿ ICG is working with Lucent Technologies to bring the service to the market. Both companies have been involved in trials of the new service, Daly said. |
