Re -- I agree with you that I " personally" don't own a sub-$1000 dollars computer but I can tell you that It would not have been achieved without competition..

sub-$1000 computers existed even before the recent bru ha ha of AMD. Check your facts carefully before you spread such hype here.

Its only that applications and bandwidth have not kept pace with processor advances. Thus a sub-1000 pc can run many of the applications reasonably well. People realized this and hence the market.
