Hi Mark:

While we are discussing the merits and demerits
of fixed wireless, I want to mention I had a really
interesting discussion last week with some friends
working in optical networking. They are persuaded that
ultimately we will have optical fiber to the home.
I do not know if they understand fully the economic
costs of such a buildout (the phone and cable
TV infrastructure were constructed under monopoly
markets, whereas broadband access to the home will
be a competitive market). However, this is a risk
all broadband wireless/xDSL investors should keep
in the back of their mind as they look for possible
threats over the horizon.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy

PS: I still think that broadband communications networks
10 years from now will consist of a fiber trunk and wireless
for local access.
