I spoke with FM's investor relations today. The next earnings release is scheduled for 1pm PST (after the market closes) on Wednesday, November 6. I also asked about the slide in FM's share price over the past few days and they offered what I feel was a good explanation. First, the general downdraft of the market, but more significantly, there was another outbreak of E. coli in the Pacific Northwest, and it was widely reported to be "the same strain as the deadly outbreak from the 1993 Jack in the Box restaurant's tainted hamburgers". I think that some people (shareholders, Wall Streeters) misinterpretted this to mean that it was another outbreak that would eventually be linked to Jack in the Box, hence the share price decline. Today, investigators announced that the actual source had been found: a juice company in California called Odwalla Inc. Viola, today the stock came back up a bit.

The 10/31/96 LA Times article mentioning that the source of the outbreak had been found is at:
latimes.com

Investor relations confirmed that there has been no negative news coming from the company recently, so I think it's pretty safe to assume that Foodmaker is still on its winning streak. Now that I feel more comfortable about the recent price setback, I'm considering purchasing some more shares if I can still get them below $10 tomorrow, hoping that the earnings release will trigger a small pop.

Good luck,
D. Kuspa
