Kevin, All
I would not worry about Compaq too much:
1)last year Compaq stated that Compaq have no intentions of using Media GX from Cyrx - and?
2)a bit later Compaq stated that they are not going to use k6 in their systems - and?
3)now Compaq is saying that Compaq id going to use Celeron as soon as it would be available - and what is going to happened

yes compaq will sell some celerons but at this point both Compaq and IBM got huge inventory of unsold pentiums and pIIs. IBM and Compaq is changing their strategy to adjust for falling prices by not ordering chips in advance so Compaq got no intentions of buying more than few chips to try the market. Not only Celerons are not going to replace k6s but I doubt that they would replace pmmx and low-end pIIs until the inventory is gone. By the time inventory would be gone so would be Celeron.

Regards
-Albert

ps IMHO
