Bill, Until very recently when I sold my Iomega stock, it was the largest holding in my portfolio for about three years. As a student of the company, I agree with you almost entirely. Terrific post! Where we might disagree very slightly, is that I think the value chain surrounding the Zip drive could be substantial. The chips and other engineered elements that make the product what it is and will become in my mind could evolve into the value chain the book mentions. I also agree with you that the greater likelihood of achieving gorilla-dom is in the Clik! line of products. I think the biggest question that remains unanswered as we discuss this is whether or not Clik! will become an important porprietary and open architecture. My guess is that the technology will be competing with other technologies and that it will take a very long time for the gorilla candidates to duke it out and leave one, if any, emerging as the true gorilla.
