If you go back to my original post on emoticons, I think you will see that I referred to the lost art of letter-writing. There really is no difference between communicating electronically and on paper. Training wheels is a very good way to think of it. As have other other corruptions of accepted writing, I think emoticons are here to stay. I've even made up a few for my own use.
