Intelect Communications Announces Key Operating System For Texas Instruments' New Family of Digital Signal Processors
Intelect's DNA Enterprises Expands Market Profile With Launch of Industry-Leading DSP Software Package
RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1998-- Intelect Communications, Inc. (''INTELECT'') (NASDAQ:ICOM - news) disclosed today that its DNA Enterprises business unit is launching a high performance, real-time operating system specifically designed for Texas Instruments' (NYSE:TXN - news) revolutionary new line of digital signal processors (DSPs), the TMS320C6x.
Developed by DNA's DSP Design Center, this software package, the Advanced Signal Processing (ASP6x) operating system, facilitates application development, lowers technical barriers and accelerates time-to-market for application developers jumping to the 'C6x product line.
Priced initially at $995 for a developer's kit, ASP6x sets a new standard for DSP software products in terms of features, performance and cost effectiveness. With the formal launch of the ASP6x at the DSP World Spring Design Conference in Santa Clara, CA, on April 21-23, Intelect enters the rapidly expanding market for performance-oriented DSP software applications for communications, medical instrumentation, and imaging arenas. Shipments are scheduled to commence May 1.
On April 13, TI announced the world's highest performing line of floating-point DSPs completing TI's universal DSP platform architecture encompassing both fixed-point and floating-point requirements within the C6x line. The C6x line affords a seamless environment supporting a full spectrum of applications, all of which are supported by DNA's ASP6x operating system.
In October 1997, TI selected DNA to develop the reference design for the 'C6x and supply TI with 'C6x evaluation modules (EVM's). Under the private-labeling agreement, DNA will produce a line of boards for the 'C6x to be distributed through TI's distribution channels along with software licensed from DNA. TI has announced the availability of these EVM's with shipment expected to commence April 22, 1998.
''With TI's most recent announcement, their long-range game plan is brought into focus for the marketplace and DNA has been readying itself to capitalize on this and help drive it,'' commented Dr. R. Eugene Helms, DNA's President and CEO. ''We are ideally positioned to leverage the explosion of opportunity anticipated as the market for DSP solutions grows towards TI's expected level of $50 billion. Our collaboration with TI over the past several quarters has facilitated the rollout of their 'C6x technology and enabled us to target rich opportunities for supplying essential enabling products, such as ASP6x,'' he added.
''We have been evaluating ASP6x for some time and are impressed with both its design and implementation,'' stated Christopher Burke, President of MVP Development Group Inc., a beta site for the product. ''We believe that the scalability, minimal memory requirements, and efficient data flow modeling of ASP6x specifically address the key requirements for implementing efficient applications on the 'C6x,'' he added.
The ASP6x represents another step in DNA's strategy of supplying key elements to designers and applications developers centered around the next generation DSP line from TI. By aiding efficient development with a product like ASP6x, DNA is positioned to support the full breadth of TI customers in building systems solutions while carving out an on-going supply role throughout product deployment.
The DSP Design Center at DNA specializes in the development of state-of-the-art products for clients that span the spectrum from sophisticated multiprocessor signal processing applications to low cost telecommunications applications. Based on industry-leading devices such as TI's 'C8x, 'C6x, and the 'C67x, DNA provides product designs to meet specific needs of customers' applications.
