Itronics Announces Distillation Equipment Sales Contract
RENO, Nevada--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1998--Itronics Inc. (OTC BB:ITRO - news) announced today that Itronics Metallurgical, Inc., Itronics' photobyproduct recycling subsidiary, has signed an exclusive sales contract with Calfran International of Springfield, Mass.
The contract provides that Itronics Metallurgical, Inc. will have the exclusive right to sell ''Cold Vaporization'' Vacuum Distillation equipment to its photowaste customers.
The sales territory is Canada, the United States, and Mexico with an option to expand to other territories as demand justifies.
The ''Cold Vaporization'' Vacuum Distillation equipment is designed to remove the water from used liquid photochemicals. This unique technology removes the water without damaging the contained chemicals. The equipment produces two products: (1) a commercial chemical concentrate and (2) distilled water.
Itronics Metallurgical, Inc. has developed operational procedures that allow a reduction in volume of up to 90% for used fixer chemicals, and a volume reduction of up to 97% for used developer chemicals.
Removal of most of the water from used photochemicals produces a relatively high value product that can be shipped cost effectively over long distances.
Itronics Metallurgical, Inc. prototyped the demetallization and conditioning process for this chemistry by using product from a large photoprocessor in the Washington, D.C. area. The material was shipped cross-country and had sufficient value so that net payments were received by the manufacturer after deduction of shipping costs.
Itronics Metallurgical, Inc. also sells a line of rinse water recycling equipment that allows virtually complete removal of any residual silver from the distilled water.
The water that is recovered is suitable for re-use in manufacturing. This technology allows a photography user to achieve ''zero'' hazardous photochemical waste production. If all of the recovered water is re-used, ''zero'' discharge to sewer can also be achieved.
Itronics Metallurgical, Inc. purchases the chemical concentrates under a manufacturing contract with the distiller operator.
Itronics Inc. is a Reno-based company specializing in recycling technology development, photobyproduct recycling, silver refining, and technical services for the mining and recycling industries.
