Apologies to all but please indulge my wild speculation here that Corel's new Sao Paulo office has anything to do with this article from last year about Nortel: Nortel (Northern Telecom) to Deploy One of the World's Largest SDH Fiber Optic Networks in Brazil April 14, 1997
"As the business and financial heart of Brazil, Sao Paulo needs an advanced, high capacity network to handle its ever-increasing demand for sophisticated telecommunications services. Nortel's infrastructure will help Telesp meet the city's growing telecom needs," stated Sampaio Doria, president, Telesp.
The network, expected to become operational by the end of 1998, will significantly enhance Telesp's quality of service. Nortel's SDH network provides service providers with advanced features such as virtual networks, which enables companies to lease network space, manage and use it according to their demands, thereby eliminating the need to purchase network capacity that may largely go unused. Unassisted videoconferencing, another potential offering associated with SDH technology, allows consumers to conduct videoconferences without operator assistance. Additionally, through remote network management, SDH technology provides the capability to configure, for instance, local transmission links anywhere on the network from a central location. 137.118.1.57 |
