I do not find it surprising that the Japanese would act to insulate their home market from foreign competition by "twiddling" with the basic design. They established this precedent with their existing proprietary wireless standards. The modus operandi is to erect local barriers to competition, subsidize native companies and then export like crazy.

The good news, as I have said before, is that QC likely makes more money from the ASIC+ROYALTY combination then it does on a QPE handset sale.
