JBE, you were discussing the phenomena of SI pseudonyms and hate mail -- I love "information highway rage" -- and I have been the recipient of very angry mail from a religious zealot. That, in part, was instrumental in my decision to ask Jill, our webmistress, to change my name. The other consideration was that search engines pick up your name and reference what you have written on the SI threads. That frankly horrified me.

I have been an outspoken critic of religion -- all religion. In the community in which I live I once publicly objected to religious practices in the public schools at a school board meeting. As a consequence I was the recipient of threats to burn my house down. Now I live in quiet fear of these crazies.
