Cable and Wireless Selects Newbridge Networks to Deliver Network for CityVoice Express and CityData Express Services

Newbridge Networks today announced it has been selected to supply Cable & Wireless plc with a networking solution for its new CityVoice Express and CityData Express services. The initial value of the contract is two million pounds Sterling and is forecast to grow to 20 million pounds Sterling over the next two years.
The contract extends Cable & Wireless' existing commitment to the Newbridge(R) 3600 MainStreet(R) Bandwidth Manager, which is already deployed in the Cable & Wireless Global Digital Highway. The solution guarantees exceptional voice quality through the use of LD-CELP and A-CELP voice compression algorithms. CityVoice Express and CityData Express are part of Cable & Wireless' worldwide backbone network, called the Global Digital Highway.
The CityVoice Express and CityData Express networks presently cover six cities and, upon completion at the end of August 1998, will link 241 key financial centers across 17 European cities.
he 3600 MainStreet Bandwidth Manager will be installed in these financial centers to ensure that superior quality voice services can be rapidly provided on-demand to financial institutions.

Last week Cable & Wireless and Newbridge announced an agreement whereby the industry-leading MainStreetXpress(TM) network switching and associated management software, including the Siemens / Newbridge MainStreetXpress(TM) 36170 Multiservices Switch and MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager, have been selected by Cable & Wireless and its international subsidiaries' ATM networks.
