Litton Portion of Imagery and Mapping Contract Valued At About $80 Million
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1998--Litton's TASC subsidiary Wednesday announced that it has received a contract from Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) to provide engineering services and technology innovation to the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA).
Estimated to be worth $330 million, the NIMA Systems Engineering Services contract, led by SAIC, will provide complete system integration and engineering services to support the U.S. Imagery and Geospatial Information System (USIGS) and its programs.
Litton's portion of the program is estimated to be worth approximately $80 million over the five-year contract performance period, which includes a 21-month base period with a maximum of three one-year options.
''As a member of the SAIC team, Litton will provide NIMA the engineering and technology innovation required to meet the nation's most demanding national security needs both now and into the next century,'' said Evan Hineman, TASC president. ''The team's collaborative support to NIMA is a critical step toward achieving the Department of Defense vision of dominant battlespace awareness,'' he concluded.
In a unique arrangement, SAIC built a team of 31 companies, including TASC as one of the core subcontractors, to form the EngineeringEdge Alliance. This unprecedented alignment of technology- service providers includes other industry leaders such as Booz-Allen & Hamilton and Lockheed Martin; and allows NIMA to draw on a talent pool of more than 1,000 qualified support staff.
The U.S. Imagery and Geospatial Information System will allow NIMA's customers in the defense and intelligence communities to gain and maintain an ''information edge'' in future conflicts, natural disasters and international crises.
As a first step toward ensuring this information edge, NIMA has consolidated its various systems engineering and integration contracts under the single Systems Engineering Services program. This ensures a streamlined and coherent focus of NIMA's critical engineering resources to satisfy USIGS objectives.
Litton is a leader in worldwide technology markets for advanced electronic, defense and information systems, and is a major designer and builder of surface combatant ships for the U.S. Navy and allied nations.
