GLENN MEYERS: Rare Medium

by Patricia Riedman

Glenn meyers fancies himself an old salt in new media. That's because
when Mr. Meyers joined New York agency Rare Medium
(www.raremedium.com) in 1996, he'd already founded a company
and sold it for $30 million, and then spent a decade on Wall Street
investing in start-up ventures.

"I won't make the mistake of doing an IPO prematurely," Mr. Meyers
said.

As chairman-CEO, Mr. Meyers steers one of the few remaining
independently owned Web agencies, which this year he estimates will
clinch $7 million in revenues.

He's fended off buyout offers with careful financing--recently raising
$2 million in a private offering, part of which was managed through
Rare Medium's Web site.

He's also maintained working relationships with clients and their
agencies. Rare Medium recently launched the new Pampers Parenting
Institute site for Procter & Gamble Co., working with D'Arcy Masius
Benton & Bowles, New York. The agency also owns the technology
behind Nickelodeon's site.

After checking out over a hundred tech companies to join, Mr.
Meyers singled out Rare Medium. "I knew the Internet was going to
be the next big boom industry."

Betcha didn't know: Mr. Meyers won a walk-on football scholarship
at the University of Florida.
