Hi, Randy.
I think it's a common myth that only graphics people need the fastest Macs. I know that Steve Jobs has helped promote that myth. But anyone who cares about the short seconds of his life ticking away forever, has to appreciate a much faster Mac.
All my apps open MUCH, MUCH faster on my G3/300 than my 3400c/240. All of them run faster. I can type faster on line and off line. Sometimes the computer was holding back the speed. I can move on the Internet MUCH faster, and open new pages MUCH faster, and on SI, moving to the next message is MUCH faster. This is tangible and significant. The prior Mac was the fastest of any computer in August when I bought it, and this G3/300, soon to be outmoded, is so much faster.
I honestly believe that anyone trying it will never go back.
While it's convenient to have the hook of graphics, I want my screen to redraw faster for my own personal comfort. All our lives are precious and our time is precious. Why spend it waiting for a computer, when nothing more is being done; just waiting. If you don't have to wait you can be more productive and do so much more on the same computer, and have more time in your life. It really does matter. I hope that Apple can perceive this eventually and will change their advertising accordingly. I really need to discuss this with Steve Jobs.
I might do that. Anyone have his email address, exactly?
If they don't solve my PowerBook problem, heck, I'll mention that, too.
