Steve, RE::" CyberTrading Rigz " & misc.
I too was surprised by the similarities of our `Rigz'. As far as trading goes, I think you and rest are far above me in experience.
We are also similar in our options trading range mine comes in at 2000-6000 for LEAPS and 800-2000ish for short term option plays, although I have not done many of these. My big play for year so far was a march call on Yahoo that turned into a 3-bagger in two weeks. Right now I call that one beginners luck. If I can do a couple more I'll call it a trend. :-) I also turned around and bought puts and lost a couple hundred dollars. I guess education isn't free.
I haven't done anything with index options, but they look interesting.
PBS looks good their price structure is $14 lower than etrades. Etrade is $29+1.75/c. I marked the link, but for now I'll play with Etrade. Please let me know how you like PBS.
I usually "daytrade" stocks in round 1000s lots, as I'm just scalping a point or three (when I'm lucky) for entertainment.
Well, I could only daytrade in round 100s, so I don't play much. :-o I would want a good RT setup before playing in the 1000s ballpark. Daytrading feels like playing chicken with an oncoming train to me, so I don't do it much.
Jurgen and Janko use options and LEAPS for 3-6 month swings - and I haven't learned how to do that, yet.
Neither have I but YHOO was my first non-paper experiment. I had been eyeing CIEN for this, but had no cash available recently. They had a 12% pop the other day. :-( I have been experimenting with writing 1 month or less covered calls for that point here, point there stuff. I also wrote my first naked put last month it was a TSM march 25, for another 1 1/16. Small stuff, but good learning exercises.
My big ongoing experiment with short term options is I wrote a few naked puts (TSMVF). Either I get to keep the premium or I buy that stock at a discount (to the current price), either way I should be happy, barring a major neg. `macro' level event. The best laid plans of mice and men.
I must say that I like this thread. Everyone seems like `real' people doing real things and sharing information. I hope to continue with my `experiments' and offer/learn whatever I can.
Online investing is the ultimate video game. You get to keep your score! Minus taxes of course. :-(
Good night all,
Christopher
PS. FYI E*Trade is supposedly coming out with a new interface within the next couple of months (Q2). I was told, by one of the staff, that options trading will be `significantly' improved. |
