To All: Technical questions from someone who is not technical

I have several questions which may have already been answered in the past, but I was not willing to go back through 5000 postings to find.

It has been mentioned that one drawback with cable modems is that the more people in your neighborhood who use it, the slower the connection would become.

Why wouldn't the same thing happen in the case of ADSL modems?

Which would be slowed down more - many people using cable modems on cable lines or many people using ADSL modems on phone lines?

Looking way down the line in the future, will ADSL/VDSL modems be fast enough to bring TV in through phone lines and provide competition for cable TV?
