<<By educational, I suppose you figure you're getting the truth told to you about what Limbaugh says and what he belives. Problem is Franken's book is full of BS designed to sucker people into buying something which will support their unfounded beliefs. If you truly wanted to find out what the man REALLY says and believes, why don't you just listen to the program? - After all do you pick your stocks by what you hear on TV or read in the newspaper? I think (hope) not. BTW, I get my news about our esteemed President from C-SPAN straight from the liars mouth. You might try that also.>>
I have listened to Limbaugh and he basically disgusts me. Sorry, but that's my opinion. He is a whip the masses into a hysterical frenzy sort of host. I say I find Franken's book educational because I am not a political expert. It's interesting to learn some things about Washington folk on both sides of the line. Do I blindly believe everything that is in the book? Of course not. It is satire and that means there is going to be exaggeration. However, assuming Franken is not making up quotes, some of the stuff can't be denied. For instance, Limbaugh's assertion that there are more Native Americans living in America now than there were in Colonial days. Limbaugh saying that smoking doesn't cause cancer and many others. Similarly, he points out 'interviews' Limbaugh has had in his newsletter which are actually questions Rush 'asks' with the answers taken from a variety of sources. Now, this is disclosed in the newsletter, so there is nothing inherently wrong with it, as long as the reader realizes this and realizes that you can make any question fit any answer any way you want it to. Franken gives a counter-example of an 'interview' with Rush where, by taking things Limbaugh says out of context, he has Limbaugh admit to basically being a (as the title says) big, fat idiot.
The point is, most followers of many of the conservative rabble rousers, are uneducated (politically, anyway) masses who want someone to blame for their problems (BTW, I assume that those who post on this board are more enlightened than that). This same strategy worked great for Hitler in the 1930s.
Again, I don't think Clinton is perfect, but I'd sure as hell rather see him in the White House than Dole, especially if Congress stays Republican.
BTW, on the way to work this morning, I heard what I would call a Republican 'concession' commercial. It was for some Congressman in NJ. Basically, it was a 'Remember what happened last time the Democrats controlled the White House and Congress' sort of commercial. It urged voters to vote for the Republican candidate to prevent this from happening again. You don't do commercials like that unless you are assuming your party will not control the White House.
Of course, a Republican would say that the purpose of the commercial is to strengthen the Republican hold on the White House and Congress, but that again comes down to me, as a Democrat, having different core beliefs than a Republican.
Boy, I'll be glad when the election is over so we don't have to have these arguments any more.
