You may get consolidation in the tobacco industry as a result of the possible settlement. As you already know, MO has just begun to downsize. I think it's possible- but it's a mere speculative thought at the moment- that MO may ultimately emerge with a virtual monopoly in the tobacco industry. It may not be in RN's interest to go it alone after the terms of a settlement are possibly reached.
" There is no cash on the table as the companies involved have walked away from the June 97 settlement deal ". I think you know who walked away from that deal! In my view, that was a mere negotiating ploy to let Congress know that enough is enough and they should get back to reality.
