VTEL Launches Aggressive International Advertising Campaign Commercials Secure Ownership of Digital Visual Communications Mantle
AUSTIN, Texas, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Doing more with less time. Being in many places at once. Bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be. These are the themes of the ambitious international branding campaign launched by VTEL Corporation (Nasdaq: VTEL - news), the global leader in Digital Visual Communications(SM).

A set of television commercials began airing Monday, April 13, and is running on major domestic and international programs. The 30-second spots illustrate the value, flexibility and powerful communications capability provided by VTEL systems. The advertisements, created by the Madison Avenue New York office of DDB Needham Worldwide, are part of VTEL's multi-million dollar branding initiative that is rolling out over the next several months.

''These advertisements create a leadership identity for VTEL's advanced Digital Visual Communications systems, and in turn, move the entire industry forward by creating a new awareness of this spectacular technology,'' said Jerry S. Benson, Jr., VTEL president and chief operating officer. ''We're transforming the industry from traditional 'videoconferencing' technology used by a few into an indispensable communications tools embraced by the mainstream.''

The television ad campaign, which will run on networks such as CNN, CNN International and CNBC, shows business professionals engaged in face-to-face meetings on VTEL systems. Both commercials humorously highlight the impassioned and lively conversations that often occur during business meetings. The ads demonstrate the way that VTEL's technology enables these ''face-to-face'' meetings to occur when the participants are actually in completely different places. Print ads, which debut in May, will run in The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times.

''VTEL is changing the vocabulary of the industry, taking videoconferencing technology to a place where it will become as indispensable as the telephone,'' said Peter Tate, president, DDB Needham Worldwide. ''And VTEL is launching this ad campaign to visually demonstrate to business people how Digital Visual Communications can benefit their life and their business.''
