RESEARCH ALERT - Guidant lowered to buy NEW YORK, April 16 (Reuters) - Bankers Trust Alex. Brown said it lowered its rating on Guidant Corp. to buy from strong buy. -- No further information on the rating change was immediately available. -- Guidant on Wednesday reported sharply higher first-quarter sales and earnings, but said it expects its gross profit margin to erode somewhat by the fourth quarter. -- Guidant was off 3-3/16 at 69-3/4 in Thursday morning trading. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
