ADVA Optical Solutions and Computer Network Technology Team to Provide Increased Bandwidth for Less Money
Agreement Includes ADVA's Fiber Service Products That Expand Fiber Capacity
MINNEAPOLIS, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Network Technology Corp. (CNT) (Nasdaq: CMNT - news) and ADVA Optical Solutions, Inc., Ramsey, N.J., today announced that they have signed a development and OEM agreement in which CNT will purchase ADVA's Fiber Service Platform products designed to increase the bandwidth and improve the performance of enterprise networks. ADVA products provide additional capacity, extend short-distance fiber signals, and will be used with CNT's Channelink and UltraNet products to provide a full range of networking solutions. The companies also have agreed to work together to develop an integration of Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies.
''The CNT Channelink and UltraNet products are excellent complements to the ADVA Fiber Service Platform products,'' said Brian McCann, president of ADVA Optical Solutions. ''We believe high-performance data communication systems will be leading applications for WDM technology in enterprise and carrier markets, and we look forward to leveraging our technologies to provide a complete solution. CNT's customer base, sales force and technical support will also provide the necessary infrastructure to support our continued rapid growth.''
ADVA products expand fiber capacity with WDM and fiber optic converter (FOC) products in two ways. WDM systems take advantage of the unused capacity of fiber by transmitting multiple signals in different colors of light or wavelengths. This creates much-needed additional bandwidth for less money in less time than acquiring new fiber. FOC products can either extend high-speed fiber applications over long distances or provide individual WDM conversion.
ADVA Fiber Service Platform products support applications ranging from 10 to 1250 Mbps and can span distances up to 150km, point-to-point. The product line includes high-speed fiber optic converters, modular converter systems and modular wavelength division multiplexing equipment to meet the needs of enterprise and carrier customers using high-speed enterprise data networking applications, including Ethernet, optical DS-3, Fast Ethernet, ATM, SONET, ESCON, Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet. All products are available with SNMP management systems and an automatic, alternate path fail-over switch feature.
''The ADVA products are an important part of the CNT solution because they allow our customers to leverage their investment in scarce, dark fiber,'' said Mark Knittel, vice president of CNT marketing and business development. ''This, combined with CNT's leadership in networking, increases the value of our SAN solutions for customers who require the fastest and most reliable storage transmission.''
