Placing moral certainty on it. If you pick at the loose threads enough, there is very little which can be imbued with moral certainty. I suspect the existentialists were able to sincerely deconstruct the moral imperative of something as obvious as the will to live.
I think morality needs to evolve out of consensus - as a way to balance our native self-interest with the not always intuitive benefits of living in a group, like a family, tribe or suburb. Those who seek moral absolutes often either find God (or make him by sheer force of will!) or slump into a despairing sea of moral relativism.
Finding the middle road, building a sense of ethics which is solid enough to provide honor and decency, yet flexible enough to admit new learned things - oy that's a toughie.
