Openings Slated for '98
PORTLAND, Ore., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Hollywood Entertainment Corp. (Nasdaq: HLYW - news) opened its 1,000th superstore under the Hollywood Video banner today, it was announced by founder and CEO Mark Wattles.
The chain, one of the fastest growing retail chains in the world, also reported in its recent year-end financial reports, that it opened a record number of home video superstores in 1997.
Hollywood Video will open the doors of its 1,000th superstore on April 16 in Mesquite, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. In 1997, Hollywood Video opened 356 new locations in 40 states, exceeding projections made earlier in the year. Marking a record-breaking month for growth, 71 stores were opened in the month of December. At the close of 1997, Hollywood Video listed 907 stores in 42 states. To date, 93 stores have opened in 1998 and another 307 store openings are planned by
