Don't say never, James. Good way to get hurt. Say highly unlikely instead. A few years back Japan was going to kick our butts. When I graduated with my Masters in 88 the speaker was a highfalutin' Frenchman. He spoke to instill fear into the crowd that Japan was taking us over economically as a power house and we better get ready to defend the onslaught because we had lost substantial ground already. There were several books out around the same time. Peoples fancies change drastically. Always look in the rear-view mirror -- but especially when backing up! Of course there is the proverb: Pride goeth before the fall -- there's a lot of pride in this market, IMO.
