Well, of course we are the sum of our experiences, in a sense. And yes, I don't begin to believe that I have invented my morality out of thin air. But evolve is not exactly correct, in my view, any more than to say that "I" evolved from carbon and hydrogen. My body has incorporated these elements, but "I" do not come from these elements, if you can see what I am trying to say.

We are presented with a wide range of choices and I have made choices in what I believe. But I have not evolved from those choices, those choices only represent a chronicle of my evolution. They are the path along which I have come. But there is a "me", that chooses. That me is not built from the consensus of what other people think about how I should behave. It is built from my own sense of my own behavior. It is the me that makes those choices.

Semantic friction perhaps. But my sense of morality is very distinct to me from the consensus of other's morality.
