Maybe it's the Scots heritage of dogged stubborness that comes from the name Douglas that keeps us hanging around.

Yeah, the STPC product was announced back in March 13 for availability on April 15. Now they say they are "delivering," but my question is "to whom?" It would have been nice to know who is buying it.

This release mentions 32Mb memory and 2Gb hard drive that weren't included in the original release. That makes me think that they reconsidered the configuration of the box in light of the disfavor that NCs seem to viewed with in the market. It's a PC, not an NC.

Since it is "book sized," it sounds like a multimedia laptop that you put on top of your TV (but can't carry it around with you)? DVD & HDTV are coming to laptops soon also, which means this STPC's price (not mentioned also) will be competing with larger volume producers. A full featured MM Pentium full motion video enabled laptop with DVD CD-ROM should retail around $4,500 or so. What's their price, and can I run Windows/Office on it too? And do I really want to do spreadsheets on my TV?

Like you, I am assuming that the STPC is a client platform for their Cheetah product, targeted for the Corporate training/education market. But you know that old adage about assuming things. I hope the home set top PC market is not a serious pursuit for them because I think that market doesn't really exist and never will, it is a mad marketer's mirage. But that's just my opinion.

I don't expect them to accrue alot of revenue from the STPC and hope they haven't spent too much money on it. I like them for what they are going to do in the Internet/Intranet based Corporate Training Services market and Tourism.

In for the long haul. Anybody else? It may take a little while. In the meantime, traders will be jumping on and off, like they've done just recently. At least, nobody cheered the STPC today. Yawn.

Cheers
