Same with the people of Singapore. Which by the way has one of the lowest levels of teenage crimes in the world. I feel pretty certain some of it is because of the physical punishment involved.

Well, yes. Of course. Threaten people with torture and mutilation and you may get low crime rates. If a repressive society pleases you. I have friends who've been there and they say it's extremely creepy.
