It depends on what your definition is for a "beating". I wouldn't consider a few wacks on the butt or back with a belt a "beating".

You better build a few thousand more jails and prepare for the government to raise a few more million teenagers. Because it happens, in America often.

Yes, I was occasionally whipped as a young teenager. I didn't like it, but it sure as heck taught me right from wrong. I don't believe in it, I think there are many different ways to modify unruly behavior. But the simple fact is, I'm not about to arrest every father in America who disagree's with me. And it does work to modify behavior.

In my mind this is a real problem in America today. Too many people want to pass laws which remove the authority from parents to raise their children as they see fit. We have developed a militia like mindset, which arrests parents first, assumes guilt, and then asks questions later. The rule of law is completely obfuscated in order to have everyone conform to their moral "Mr spock" like behavior codes.

Teenagers have been taken to barnsheds and spanked with a belt for centuries. Have we all been damaged beyond repair?
