Michael,
When a piece of equipment or important component i.e., stepper, etcher, laser, mfc gets excepted in a large semiconductor company e.g. Intel, Motorola...
It pretty much takes an act of god to try something new to do or replace what the excepted component did.

"copy exact"

In the copy exact mode you don't change anything <>without a proposed plan and upper managements approval. After the proposed plan has been completed a full report of the improvements i.e., money savings, process improvement ect...goes out to all departments.
Then everyone has a vote on the proposed change.
It is a grueling internal chore to make a change.
