Last I checked, they DO compete with Macromedia and Adobe! They aren't likely purchase candidates because of the overlap. Moreover, MGI software, soon to be part of the much larger and more powerful discreet logic family, is kicking the pants off of metacreations.

This could be the bottom, but this company has been run by egos and BS for some time, they've got credibility problems to overcome. This could be dead money for some time. moreover, I'd expect breakeven or worse for the quarter.
