The problem as I see it, is that if there is an area that needs support, the support is provided at some outrageous price, until the software is corrected to perform better, or implemented differently to remove the requirement for the consultant support.

Look at all of the scrambling that is currently going on for the Y2K problem, at the end of this cycle, the consultants won't be required! This is typical of everything! If there is a shortage, the price is initially high, and everybody sees a way to make a 'bundle' so a ton of people are 'drawn' into the market, and soon the pay is average! You have to be there first to make the big bucks!
