You make too much of this situation. Institutional investors view AAPL as that other computer co. that doesn't interest them in the least. Most are of the firm opinion that Microsoft dominates and only allows Apple to exist. Hence, AAPL could dry up and blow away. Too risky. Ignore it.

Even with their darling Compaq flopping on the pier like a stranded fish with too much inventory, and Apple showing 8% increase in unit sales over last year with a whopping 25% margin and no inventory problems, they react with a ho humm indifference that defies all logic and reason. No, they would rather talk up their beloved Yahoo, Seek and Amazon.com.
