L, The problem with purchasing another company is that you inherit the 'good' with the 'bad'. With the technology changing so rapidly, some of the old doesn't work that well, and eliminating that type of support can be pretty expensive. Were you involved with the selection of DEC for the task, or did somebody get DEC? It has been my experience that most manufacturers of hardware have a pretty good support staff. I know that when I worked for IBM, we had some great help when needed - right back to the design engineers! It is not abnormal for a customer NOT to ba able to find the best configuration since, especially if it is a new system, they won't be familiar with the functions that the complex can perform! When I did support for new telecommunication switching systems, the operating companies had no idea how it worked. Not surprising since they hadn't been trained on it yet, and I had been in since the earliest stages of design. Regards, Ken
