I agree if there were any sulfides they would decompose. Furthermore, none of the DD's have reported the presence of tellurium, so one can eliminate telluride's. Assuming "free native gold" then one has limited models for extractive assays. 1) Fire assay -- which I concur with you is straightforward. 2) Liquid extraction -- this can be divided into two categories: Mineral acids, e.g. aqua regia; and/or organic extraction, e.g. cyanide compounds This leaves little left to the imagination.
