Dave...with all due respect, how do you expect your comments to be taken seriously when you come across as a Sybase cheerleader? I respect and appreciate many of your posts but I find the above post to be laughable. Sybase is in the midst of a 3-year train wreck while management and you continue to offer excuse after excuse as to why it's happened and how THIS quarter will be different. If you want to look at eroding market share, let's look at Sybase. If you want to look at Service growth outpacing License growth, let's talk about Sybase. This is the ultimate case of the pot calling the kettle black. I predict Sybase's Q1 will be a continuation of the self-destruct sequence the company has been in for 3 years and probably worse. North America is a disaster for Sybase and you know it.

Look, you are correct that Service growth at REDB outpaced License growth. You are correct that they have lost market share in the past 18 months. REDB has a LOT of work to do to get back to strong License revenue growth. However, how can you say the company continues to pump money into R&D with nothing to show for it when UNBIASED industry analysts agree that REDB has excellent technology. Further, I know people in the Data Warehousing business at Sybase that freely admit that REDB is a tough competitor with excellent technology. Additionally, I was told last weekend that Data Warehousing sales reps at Sybase are leaving in flocks. The company is imploding yet you never discuss these issues. John Chen has brought in Pyramid execs by the dozens. Sybase is the company in immediate danger of becoming irrelevant as a stand-alone entity.

I guess I'd like to see you offer positives and negatives for BOTH companies instead of showing up with posts that paint gloom and doom scenerios as if they were written in stone. Everything you post about Sybase is golden while your REDB posts are almost always 100% negative. I understand your need to compete with REDB but try not to be such a "homer" in the process.
