Ga Bard: I became aware DF-144 just this afternoon and am very intrigued (and perhaps a bit confused). The 4/16/98 Midland Inc news release cites an octane enhancer with an "octane as high as 227". Your earlier post #6 on 2/7/98 in this thread indicates DF-144 has octane as high as 165 in one paragraph and then as high as 144.5 in a later paragraph. All of these are high numbers, but the inconsistency arouses a little suspicion in me. I searched for US Patents assigned to Midland Inc. and Arcoenergy and could find none. I did however find a patent assigned to Research Octane Inc. that has wording identical to your description of the DF-144 process in your post #6:

From Post #6 in this thread:

"The Process takes an input stream of ethanol, butane and natural gasoline and produces a product with octane as high as 144.5 - this product is known as Dynamic Fuel-144 (DF-144)....."

From US Patent 5,679,117 issued to Inventors Jarvis; David R. (Coral Springs, FL); Wilson; Ewert J. A. (Albany, KY). Assignee: Research Octane Inc. (Albany, NY).

"A process of producing high octane hydrocarbons includes the steps of preparing a mixture of substantially ethanol and butane or natural gasoline...."

It is also interesting to note that one of the inventors lists his home town as Albany, KY (where the initial batch of DF-144 was made?). Do you know if this is one of the patents obtained by Arcoenergy? Thanks - I'm very interested in learning more about the molecular composition of this DF-144!
