Zap: WELCOME TO SI! I was struck by the double standard. Dauntless is one who hides behind a pseudonym here, yet he demands to know who YOU are when you show up with a pseudonym. Like, all new members here are sinister if they aren't on his side.
For goodness sake, don't tell him who you are. I don't know who you are, but am willing to learn who you are through the contents of your posts. If you say you've been reading this board for 6 months and have finally ponied up the $125, there's no reason to doubt that, from my point of view. If it turns out that genuine discrepancies appear, and if I think you're not being honest, I'll be the first one to call you on it. But till then I do believe what you say.
By the way, Dauntless got a free membership to SI just because he happened to join when all memberships were free. So did I. Neither of us got free memberships as a result of any special credentials. We were just here at the right time. If we had to join now, we'd have to pay the $125.
Don't let anyone make you feel self-conscious about your spelling. That's another low blow and not relevant to the content of your posts. People who can't argue content make personal attacks of that kind. There are many reasons some people have trouble with spelling, some of which are physiological. It's insensitive to attack your spelling and an indication that he has nothing substantial to say by way of arguing with your points.
It's true that there's a built in spell checker as part of the new preview feature here, but for a new member that can be confusing and the spell checker is inadequate. The words that show up in red in preview are "suspect" words but the correct spelling is NOT offered so if you don't know how to spell something, it only will send you to a dictionary. Not a very good spell checker. And some suspect words are correctly spelled, too!
I sincerely hope you enjoy participating on SI.
